Avon Spirit ST

Big Wheel
Any thoughts on this new tire from Avon? It is available in Connie sizes and seems to be getting good reviews so far.

I read a review where they were mounted to a Z1000 and the front locked up under heavy braking and the back would break loose when leaned over throttling out of a corner. They did not recommend these tires for heavy bikes.

MCN tested it and seemed to think it was competent on all types of bikes but did note it had some issues on heavier bikes when pushed on the race track. They said they have a comparison forthcoming which should be a good read. Bikesport News tested it as well and had some issues on the bigger bikes when pushed hard on the track....they did say though that the tire was intended to perform well on the road and so far were impressed with them.

I'm hoping they turn out to be a good option for the Connie. In the 120/70 18 size they are still intended for a 3.5" rim which is an issue. When I use the Avon fitment guide they recommend the Storm 3D XM however their chart indicates that a 3.5" rim is required....I emailed Avon last week asking for clarification regarding the recommendation and the 3" width that my 2006 Connie has. So far I haven't received a reply.
