Body armor

Anyone have experience with either of these? Bohn Body Armor or Forcefield Body Armour. I'm interested in the pants only. Looking for comments on pro's and con's between the two from people who have tried or do use them. Thanks for any info.

I've been wondering the same thing and have been looking at both for a while. Interested in hearing what people have to say about them too.

TextI'm saving up for a pair of the pants, but it may be a few months. Anybody else have any input?
Ted, I'm leaning toward the Forcefield over the Bohn. Which one are you looking at? I've been reading some reviews and the Forcefield seem to have better armor and customer service. Like you I'm saving up to purchase a pair. Daryl

I wear the Bohn pants most of the time and I have no complaints. Very well paded but the pads are not CE rated.

Although I have not used these and I am a big believer in protective gear, my comment is given the extent of the protection offered in both crash as well as weathere/temperature/increased visibility via reflective materials etc.. IMHO over the clothing garments are the way to go. I can see the attraction in using these items, just not the practicalities given the costs. http://www.webbikeworld.com/bohn-body-armor/ AKA "2linby" That's 2-lin-by folks! My interest in them is that I can wear street pants and my Olympia jacket when riding. I still have the hi-vis and protection of the Olympia, but the convenience of not having to go through the drill of removing full body gear whenever I go somewhere. Plus, being snug and under my jeans, they'll likely provide better protection if needed by staying in place. The number one injury for motorcyclists is to the knees IIRC.

I'm probably going to try the Bohn pants this season. I had a pair of the Tourmaster Jeans that were a really decent set of riding pants with CE armor, in and of themselves, but since dropping 40lbs I'm going to need to revisit some of my gear... ;) Steve K. I've been reading about riders using the Carhartt pants in 12 oz. and with the double front. Other riders put knee armor in the pocket of the double front. I'm going to look at some and try on and then determine which armor to use. The reviews I've read about the pants say the abrasion resistance is as good as riding pants or better if thats the case I wonder if some gear like Alpinestars compression shorts with padding would be fine with some knee pads? Here's one site about the Carhartt's. http://www.canyonchasers.net/reviews/clothing/cordura-carhartt.php

On that canyon chasers link, click in the link for Carharts page. Then clicked on Dungaree fit and they have a number of double front models. Some are 15oz demim, for the traditional blue jean look, in a heavyweight 15oz material, with the same double front, chap style, that you can stick armor in. $42 2003 Concours, 46K COG #6953 IBA 28004 http://mysite.verizon.net/slybones/Concours/connieMain.htm

The 15oz denim ones were only $36 at Work 'n More when I looked at them this morning, while out running arrends. These are heady duty and double front, would easily hold some armor. Back home and looking at my HT overpants, the hip armor velcro's in place. I am thinking if you size the Carharts right you might only need to sew in some velcro attachment points and just transfer the CE armor I have from the FirstGear HT Overpants to the jeans. -- You would have similar protection for $36 and some velcro. Then I would roll up the HT Overpants and throw them in the saddle bags. With no Armor these would roll up easily. And I could slip them over the jeans at any time. And not have double knee armor ( since the armor in the pants came from the Overpants ) but get the rain and weather protection or added warmth as needed. Off hand this seems like worth more investigation to see if they fit well with the hit pads from the HT overpants installed. For riding back and forth to work I would continue to use the Overpants with armor as is. So I have regular work clothes underneath. And have the added protection and weather. But for hot summer rides where I have been doing HT Overpants over shorts, this looks like an alternative that offers similar protection. Sometimes its nice to slip off the overpants and have shorts on. But sometimes it would be nice to just have jeans. -- Here we would have some abrasion resistant jeans with knee and hip protection, and double fronts too. 2003 Concours, 46K COG #6953 IBA 28004 http://mysite.verizon.net/slybones/Concours/connieMain.htm

I have a set of Walls ZeroZone overalls that I keep on the bike for very chilly weather. They fit over whatever armor I'm wearing and the insulation is top notch. Because of that though, they'd be no good to try to armor, with so much room inside the armor'd just slide to the side in an impact.

I wear mine under my riding pants. They stay in place better. Crashing and riding. Andy, that must have been painful testing the crashing part. Sorry, I couldn't resist, just kidding around. Ted

Ted, here's another link - http://www.johnsonleather.com/under_garments.htm I still haven't decided on what I'm going to do. For sure I'll be going with the Carhartt double front pants. Just got to decide on what to wear under them.

Dang, that stinks Brett. Ihope you get what you want soon. I think that I'll be going with the Bohn pants. It's just a personnal preference for U.S. small business versus foreign. I still have to save up for it though, which is kinda hard to do with 4 teenagers in the house, all heading for college soon. :)

Has anyone tried the Knox Cross shirt (full body armor) or the Alpinstar Bionic 2 Protection Jacket.  I will be taking a tour of the Badlands this coming July and thinking my textured, well vented and armored jacket is going to get very hot.  Anyone have experience with trying to stay cool as possible but yet be reasonably protected with less than a jacket?
