Brrr..ride..What to do

Got the notification Friday that I've been scheduled for a colonoscopy on the 16th of November. That's the Sunday of the Brr..Ride. Sunday is the ride home, so it's not a ride killer....BUT.... If I follow the prep instructions, I can't stop at Bluegrass for Buckwheats. If I don't follow the prep, I could conceivably have complications during the procedure. With the prep stuff you have to take, it'll clean you out faster than Draino. So, my question is: Do I get the maple syrup or the gravy this year? :) I'll prep when I get home. I'm eatin buckwheats, dammit. http://millerized.com/pegs I'll be in the garage

Hmm.... not a good plan! Having been through this, you will need to prep as the doc tells you. On the day of the scope job, you will be worthless. You'll think you can walk, chew gum, work on your bike, but it's an illusion. The doc gives you the same stuff Michael Jackson got but in the right dose. Don't operate machinery, including computers and email that day. Here is a slightly humorous account of one man's colonoscopy and from my experience I think it's right on. JMHO though. Put your coffee cup down before reading so you won't spill it laughing. Proper prep is crucial. Follow doctor's instructions. You wouldn't want to have to do the prep all over again (and have to reschedule the procedure) because you didn't get it right the first time. Be prepared to spend most of the day before your test on the toilet. Bring a good book. -- Steve Smith, COG #3184 COG Northeast Area Director (somewhere in south central CT)

I've done it once before, back in 1992. Absolutely no anesthesia, not even a valium to calm me down. Probably the worst experience, medically, that I'd ever had...to including cutting my thumb off and my public vasecotomy (they never shut the door to the hallway). I felt and heard the entire procedure, from the initial start as a blow up doll to the biopsies at 60, 90 and 120cm. That I'm even going back says something about the current problems I'm facing. The prep is nothing, I get to go to the bathroom until my butt looks like a baboon. That's weekly for me. One of the reasons I'm going in in the first place. The only thing that bothers me about the whole process is waking up covered in KY and not finding a thank you card or payment on the pillow. I asked today, and got clearance to "eat nothing after 9AM" and start the prep as soon as I get the kickstand down. But the rest of the day is going to be by the book and on the throne. He even mentioned taking a Ducolax with the Buckwheats....yeah...about that. At least it's only 3hrs from home, and I carry TP on the bike. Maybe the yeast in the beer Saturday night will help move things along :) http://millerized.com/pegs I'll be in the garage

Sounds like a plan... good luck! Here is wishing you a KY-less experience. -- Steve Smith, COG #3184 COG Northeast Area Director (somewhere in south central CT)

Instead of passing around the stump juice as we did in past years, I can pass around some Ducolax, MiraLAX and Magnesium Citrate....That oughta get things "going". http://millerized.com/pegs I'll be in the garage

Man, COG is gettin' up there! From stump juice to ducolax! The proof is that we all know what ducolax is. And, we're substituting maple syrup for stump juice. Seriously, pre-op Buckwheats will likely help with the procedure. They may even prescribe it in the future! Sounds good, anyway. :) Just don't take any chocolate from this guy, boys. ;p Pat COG 1887 IBA 5830 NRA LIFE VSSA LIFE Assorted bikes own me.

Chocolate is OK, just beware the Tootsie Rolls without the wrapper. But, I digest...er, I mean digress ;) I'm going to take the Buckwheats as a "something to wash the Ducolax down with". Truthfully, depending on the timing involved, I may have to forgo the buckwheats this year (Damn, I almost fooled myself with that one!!!! ;p Forgo buckwheats...LOLOLOL!!!!) I'll just have a lot "more" to look forward to that afternoon  http://millerized.com/pegs I'll be in the garage
