chains

On ADVrider I came across several ideas for chains, etc. awhile back. Since our side streets are ice packed....Have any of you tried anything like that? I think this is the longest either of my bikes have set and .,.,not good. Thanks.

Although we feel for you, I would advice that you NOT chain up your Connie for any reason. Way too many things can and will go wrong, very wrong........... :8o: AKA "2linby" That's 2-lin-by folks! Dallas, I once carried a hank of cotton clothesline rope to use on my GL1000, but that was a sidecar rig. I just cut and tied pieces around the rear wheel to get over an icy mountain. But three wheels is far better than two on the slippery stuff. Wouldn't recommend it on a Conk-----unless you have a chair attached! ;) Pat COG 1887 IBA 5830 NRA LIFE VSSA LIFE Assorted bikes own me.

Please tell me you aren't serious! Or is this just a case of Darwinism? In that case, go for it. Aging is scary when you start making the same noises as your coffee maker!

If you have a spare set of tires, what about studs? :p I can just see a Connie power sliding around a corner, big 'ole rooster tail of ice chips flying in the air. Sounds like a good Harry Martin cartoon :eg:

If you're serious look towards studded tires, not chains. There's little clearance on either end to use chains. Studs, on the other hand, would probably work. Find a good solid thick treaded tire, stud them up. I've studded more than one set of tires for motorcycles, just never a set for a connie. Sure it's possible, just never done it. http://www.millerized.com I'll be in the garage

Sounds like a good Harry Martin cartoon that's good vic, i'd like to see that. maybe dandemotoman can recommend a car snow tire for the back and you could just stud the front. i really hope we're kidding here but i think a more "standard" bike would work better. i know i've had some fun riding my dirtbike in the snow but i don't think i wanna try that ice stuff on any bike.... :8o:
