Death Valley

Bicycle
I was thinking of riding from my house (Huntsville AL.) to Las Vegas and to Death Valley and south and was wondering if I could make it because I think a lot of the roads are dirt.

There is a short cut from Las Vegas to Death Valley that avoids the interstates and it is paved all the way, but it isn't very well marked. It will save you both time and traffic, but you'll probably need a GPS to find it. It goes through Pahrump. It starts out as Blue Diamond Road in Las Vegas and turns into hwy 160. When you get to Pahrump go west on 372. 372 turns into 178 when you cross the California border.

178 intersects with hwy 127, and if you go north on 127 it will take you right into Death Valley. All these roads are paved, and it is a great little shortcut.

The roads around Death Valley like the one Fred suggested are made for the Concours. Little traffic and wide open (the scenery of course!).  Be careful when you get into the park as the posted speed limit is 55 if I remember correctly. Have fun, Mark
