Thought I would post this in case anyone does searches for places to stay in VA.  The Strasburg Hotel is located in Strasburg VA just a town over from Front Royal at the beginning of the Skyline Drive.  The price was reasonable, the place was very comfortable, and there is a small bar in the main building, which is one of the few in town.

No affiliation, just a good experience when I stayed there.

Just up the road in Old Town Winchester is the George Washington Hotel.  I rode up there for an offsite meeting once and now want to take my wife there for a weekend outing.  A bit pricey, but they have good discount rates (got a room for $70).  The rooms are very nice with modern features yet try to stay in the historical theme.  Great parking for the bike (covered too) and just a block away from pub and eatery row.  For breakfast try the Piccadilly Grill just across the street, simple cooking in a vintage diner (50 years of wear on the counter!).
