I think the speeds listed are a little optimistic.

Very much agree. Those speeds must be theoretical based on gear ratios and bench races.
Yes, I had a 2019 1290 SDGT. Had it to Road America 3 times. It maxed out at 155 going up the front stretch. Went thru turns 1,2 and 3, then went down a nice straight and got 157 out of it. The article said 187! It wouldn't even pull 6th gear.
This article is full of sensationalism, BS and inaccuracies. I read the BMW K1600B weighs 476 # and kinda quit trusting it at all.
A good strong running FJR will top out around an honest 155 MPH (flat road, light winds, lower altitudes). A few might approach 160 MPH. The 6-speed transmission that started with the 2016 model doesn't seem to increase top speed.
