California's historic rains this past few weeks appears to have ended the multiyear drought for most of the state, but has done some serious damage to local roads. Mudslides have done massive damage and several days since New Year's I've either not been able to get to work (a 90-mile RT through the mountains) or had to take huge detours that made my RT commute 6 hours one day and 8 hours another :-\
Now I see that my favorite route to work is permanently closed -- first picture shows the Old Soquel Road the last day we were still sliding past a wash out -- that dropped pavement is now down the hill.
And the second photo is one of the big bridges on Hwy 1 north of Big Sur -- which is now cut off from civilization (they are actually using helicopters to bring in supplies).
Fun days ahead. Maybe I need to break down and finally get that KLR!?!?!?
