For those with the four or six pot brake modificat

I converted my front brakes over to Tokico four pots with the aid of Shaun's Foracs caliper adapters. Fantastically better than the stock calipers. However I recently experienced a potentially dangerous situation with the set up that I feel needs to be brought to the attention of everyone who has performed this modification. I started to experience a decidedly weaker brake stopping power regardless of how much input I excerted on the lever. I removed my caliper and pads and found the following condition and reason for my weak braking. Due to the caliper mounting postion the pads are not completely covered (to the inside) by the rotors path of travel. Therefore the rotors will cut an arc into the pads leaving a thin remainder of the pad at the tops of each pad. As the pads wear the remainder of the un-cut portions on the oppossing pads eventually come together and the remaining material limits the "cut" pad from effectively coming into complete contact with the rotor surface. I also must add that my rotors are at their effective service limit of 4mm. While I am happy with the efectiveness of the four pots versus the stock calipers I think everyone who has these adapters should take a look to see if they are experiencing the same pattern of wear in their pads and take note of this potential condition. Well, I was considering this mod. Thanks for the heads up. I will be watching to see what others have to say.

Hmmm.. Interesting. Somehow from a thread on the other site, I thought it was only the original 6-pot calipers like I have, with this problem and the 4-pot and newer 6-pots brackets were ok. So yes I have been paying attention to them. But I did not realize that everyone had to pay attention. I also though that the problem was with the stock rotors and the original 6-pot mounting. In emails I had with Shaun I believe my original version 6-pot brackets for 320mm rotors will not have this problem either. My front rotors are also at the limit. My plan was to change to the 320mm wave rotors when I get new rotors, since the stock rotors and 320mm rotors from Murph are the same price. I alread have a bracket from Shaun.

I don't think you will have any issues with the 320 mm rotors as they shouldn't have any mouting interference issues with the stock fork bosses. It seems that the stock rotors are not wide enough to have the caliper adapters hold off the 4 pots far enough to completely clear the edge of the rotor. I don't know if the 6 pots with stock rotors pose the same issues. AKA "2linby" That's 2-lin-by folks! Shawn has been made aware of that, And I think he's tweaked the brackets. basically if you have the old brackets, the fix is to bevel the pads so they can't ever come in contact. steve Purveyor of the 7Yh gear unit and performance exhaust cam sprockets. If I read this correct then the fix is to "cut or shave down" the portion of the pads that do not come in contact with the rotor? AKA "2linby" That's 2-lin-by folks! Can someone show a picture as I am getting ready to mount mine and would like to know what to grind off before mounting. All I know is that these oem brakes have to go.
