Front vs. Rear Brakes

Easy question folks... I've changed my rear brake pads. Is there anything different about the fronts I should be prepared for before I dive in? I mean aside from the fact that there are twice as many. Ta, Scott

Watch for break fluid spileage when you open your master cylinder cover. protect your tank and paint with a few towels, also use a clamp to compress the caliper but do not tighten to much. Good luck it's easy.

If your bike is a 94 or newer, the front pads are not the same unit as the rear pads. When I bought my first set of front replacement pads for my 2001, I told the parts guy the first ones he showed me "didn't look right". He dutifully returned with the other pad type and I went on my merry way. Several weeks later when I tried to install them I realized my error.

I should have mentioned it's a '99. So the front and rear calipers are essentially the same then?

For all intents and purposes, yes, the front and rear calipers are "the same". The rear caliper is a single pot sliding pin design. The fronts are a 2 pot sliding pin design. Since you can change the pads on the rear then you can do it on the fronts. Have fun.
