HUD in Helmet? Meh...

I don't quite get your subject line; the HUD in the video is on the windshield; not the helmet.  But I agree with the "meh" in either case.

Whether you have to look down to see your instrument panel, or change your focal point to read something on your faceshield, the net result is the same.  You are no longer focused on the road.  Did you see all that info that was being displayed in the video?  You know what you're not doing while you read it?... Watching the road.

HUD is cool technology, but I just can't buy that it makes a rider safer.

Skully, BMW and others are doing helmet HUD.  This would seem to supplant that it they can deal with any washout (day time) and glare (night time) issues.

That "smart shield" is displaying all the exact crap I'm trying to escape when I'm riding my motorcycle. I knew it was going to be useless the second it said it was controlled by my smartphone.

I thought it would be pertinent info (like provided by the C14 dash) projected onto the shield in a HUD. Nope.

Useless and dangerous.

There's no reason that couldn't be the next step.

Actually, that should be very do-able with any Android tablet.  My Ultimate C-10 bike has the capabilities to forward all ECU data to an HUD.  A simple filter material on the portion of shield you desire to project to and Bob's yer Uncle.  Free or super low cost apps will do it all.  I have already done it in my 2001 Civic for a total expenditure of under $15 for a Bluetooth ECU interface dongle plus a $50 tablet. That one DOES wash out in bright sun, but a little window film would cure that I'd expect.  It really ain't rocket science anymore. LOL

The hard part for the 14 will be interfacing with the CANBUS but there is already software for that too.  Probably not cheap though.

Since I have been going through eye therapy for the last 2.5 years, I have learned that when we don't use our eyes to
change focal points we lose some eyesight. It's much more complicated than I can explain, but people that work on
computers (as an example) and are not constantly refocusing on different plains will, in most cases, need glasses earlier
and lose peripheral vision. Some of this tech is cool, but it seems a lot is just for tech sake and not much else.
