My swing arm swings the wrong way

Badnews

Bicycle
Just changed the rear tire and noticed the axle mounting bracket on the right swing arm can move left to right about 1/4".
Is this normal, or do I need to replace the bearing where the bracket mounts to the swing arm?

Bill

Are you saying it does this with the wheel mounted?  If so, it doesn't sound right but I don't recall exactly.  I know with the wheel off it is quite movable.

This is with the wheel off.
I just thought it was strange to have side to side motion.
If this is normal then I'll just put everything back together and not worry about it.

Bill

Perfectly normal with the wheel off.

The back end of a C-14 is basically a four- bar system and does not have any stiffness (easy boys!) until the entire thing is bolted together. Sort of the way a piece of box type furniture will bend and warp (diamond) easily and is a little bit scary until the back is stapled in place and then the structure is quite rigid.

Thanks Brian
While I was in there I replaced the TPMS batt.
I tested it using your suggestion of tying a string to the sensor and spinning it.
It does work, but I don't have a Zuit suit to complete the outfit.

Bill

Glad to help if I can. I just hope you spun the sensor the right way (direction) or your fob is going to swell up and turn black.... er, blacker!

HAAAAAA!!!!  My fob swells up every time I mount Conn......DAMN, I wasn't gonna tell anybody that.  ::)  :-[

Back to the swingarm. I about crapped the first time I removed the back wheel and noticed the swingarm floppin around sideways. Then realized nothing felt sloppy riding it just before removal. (other than "those tires" that were coming off). Buttoned it back up with new PR2's and all play went away and it handled better than new.  :great:
