I suffered the dreaded sudden death syndrome on the way to the Dog Days Rally on Friday. We did a quick battery exchange in a Wallyworld parking lot and threw in a few layers of cardboard to shim the shorter battery up. But, since we did this so quickly, I am not sure how close I am to the OEM height. Can someone measure their OEM battery for me and post the dimensions (WxDxH), please? Thanks, Bob. I usually just roll my eyes and shrug when someone posts a question that they could easily answer themselves if they just put forth a little effort. But, I don't go as far as making them look like idiots. And, I don't think a web search will return the answer to why you did it for me. BTW - I've done my own web search and from the Yuasa company website spec sheet - 180x90x162. So, I guess your search may not have turned up the correct information after all. Oh I am not sure why I answered like that. You are correct and I usually just don't answer if all they need is to learn how to use a web search. It may be something someone said to me the other day about teaching a man to fish. I was trying to spark your ability to fish so you could feed yourself. I bet a quarter of the stuff people ask they could research them self but take the easy way out and ask us. I guess I was feeling abuse

Bill thanks for asking the question. I did a search of the ZG1000A6's fact sheets and could not even find the OEM's battery model... I too am looking at another battery as mine is at times showing signs of dying due to my "COOL" weather I live in... :eg: (Many 100+ days) I have checked the local bike shops and they are all way to expensive. I saw the AGM batteries at Wally world and I too am thinking about their size. Is that the battery you got or was it the standard one? I didn't see them there. I got the everstart maintenance free. The number was ES20LBS and it cost $62.77. It came dry and we had to add the acid. According to the measurements, it is 1/4" shorter than OEM, but I cut a piece of leftover cutting board from my rear box mount to fit into the bottom of the battery box. Bill; That model IS a AGM battery. But it is shipped dry so it is not a "Gel" cell. I am also looking at it. How long did you need to do the first charge? 2006 Connie http://community.webshots.com/user/Lateck?vhost=communityI know it is a maintenance free battery and the acid was a liquid, just like a regular battery, not a thicker gel. Anyway, I did not have the luxury of being able to put it on a charger. I know you're not supposed to use them until they've been charged, but I had no choice. My old one died on the way to the Dog Days Rally in WV on Friday. The initial charge of the acid hitting the plates was plenty to get the bike started. After installing the battery, I rode another 800 miles over the weekend with my headlight on low beam (80 watts) and rarely using the grip heaters or cruise (the only electric add-ons) to get as much juice from the alternator into the battery. When I got home on Sunday, I put it on my automatic 2 amp charger and it showed it taking about 4 amps and in about 1 hour showed a full charge. I then put it on the HF .9 amp (I think) trickle charger overnight. Putting it back on the 2 amp charger showed a full charge. In the past, I have had regular lead acid batteries and charged them overnight on the 2 amp charger and had no problems with them lasting 4-5 years.
