Really poor idle

Big Wheel
I didn't properly winterize/springerize my 2004 and now that I've got my stuck gas tank key problem sorted out I've been trying to get the bike running decent again. At first it would barely stay cranked without the choke and would die if you twisted the throttle at all. I pulled the tank and dumped the old gas. Added a few gallons of new gas with some seafoam. Now I've gotten it where I can run it and I drove it about 40 miles, but it idles really high when you let off the throttle and then will slowly creep back down to where it should be. Will I (hopefully) be able to clean this issue up somehow without tearing down the carbs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Troy, I had a similar situation when I got mine back from the dealer after a crash repair. It took me a couple of tanks of gas run through it and everything worked normally. Give it at least a tankful of gas and good running to see if it works itself back out.

Will the idle drop any faster if you crank the opposite way on the throttle? My first thought was throttle cable sticking or not correctly adjusted, bit of slack that slowly is overcome by the springs. Just my $43.95, adjusted for deflation. http://millerized.com/pegs I'll be in the garage

Another thought is to drain your carb bowls using a long ball-end allen wrench. That might help if there is any crud in the bottom of the bowls. Most likely though it will just clear up in a tank or two using Seafoam. the refusal to drop back to idle (if cables are all free) denotes a vacume leak downstram of the carb inlet. Check all lines, diapragms for pinch/tear, and forward manifold boots. I had this problem before, and actually was remedying it last weekend,.,,,,before I had a dead batt...we'll see if I corrected it tomorry....after replacing all the hoses and checking what I just noted.....and installing the new batt.....
