rear axle binding...

Reinstalled my back wheel yesterday after putting on a new rear tire (#4) and the wheel binds and doesn't want to turn when I put torque on the axle nut. Everything went together smooth, easy and clean. Can't figue out what I'm doing wrong, must be something small, simple and very important. I have rechecked the assembly, parts and proceedure by the manual and tech pages and must be missing something...never had issue with previous changes so I'm hoping for words of wisdom or someone to point out something glaringly stupid I'm missing. Thanks.

Rocco, only one thing can be wrong there; there is a part missing or outta place. Besides the bearings and their keeper parts (which you did not mention that you disassembled), there are only four other parts to account for, the rear axle, seal, distance collar, and collar. With all those parts in place, there is no way you can't torque her correctly. From the book, after mounting the wheel: Install the collar into the right side of the hub. Carefully lower the brake caliper onto the drake disc. Make sure the caliper braket sits between the swing arm and the collar in the right side of the hub. Install the axle and the seal from the left side. Make sure the axle passes through the final gearcase, the hub, collar, caliper bracket and emerges from the swing arm. Loosly installthe axle the axle nut onto the right side of the axle. Lower the torque arm so it engages the caliper bracket. Install the torque arm bolt and nut. Tighten the torque arm nut to 29Nm (22 ft. lbs). Torque the axle nut to 110 Nm (81 ft lbs) and install the cotter pin.

Yes, I'm thinking that a spacer is missing.... Did you remember that long spacer that fits between the wheel & the rear drive pig? Here's a pic from Ron Ayers microfiche; <a href="http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Module/Main/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/3/Make/Kawasaki/YearID/40/Year/1999/ModelID/4424/Model/Concours/GroupID/138841/Group/Rear_Wheel/Chain" target="_blank"><img src="http://images.ronayers.com/fiche/thumbs/thumb_138841.gif" alt="Rear Wheel/Chain" title="Click to view Online Microfiche for Kawasaki 1999 Concours Rear Wheel/Chain at Ronayers.com" border="0" /></a>

Thanks for the clues, I think I must have dropped the spacer during reassembly and its still in the hub or is hiding on the garage floor, I had forgotten about the parts fiche on Ron's site in my agitated state. (Just couldn't find my happy place!) Once again Connie owners come through, THANKS ! :)
