I've had my 2001 Connie (stock seat) for about 6 months and recently came back from my first long distance ride (about 400 miles per day for 5 days.) Connie buzz? Not a problem. Butt soreness? Yikes. I didn't think I was going to make it the last 300 miles or so. I don't like the hardness of Corbin and don't want to invest in something I don't know anything about. Anyone have suggestions? Done their own mods? I love everything about the bike except the seat.
 
Russell Day-Long is what gets the most accolades on the forums from my experience, though I haven't invested in one yet. (http://www.day-long.com/) You could also try a beaded cover or new foam inserts, I've heard both of those recommended as well. I'm sure the people who've done those mods in the past will chime in.
 
You might give these a try. (no personal experience) I have never gone more than a coupl of hundred in 1 day, but I love my beads. +1 on the beads. I can do 800+/day on em. They do firm things up, but they eliminate monkey-butt. However, with the cooler temps out now a lot of folks might not appreciate the additional breeziness. :) My wife said I needed to lose 10 pounds... But
 
Living in TX, being too cool usually isn't a problem. After reading your posts, I found some of thease on beadrider.com. If there is a different/cheaper/better option out there, let me know. This seems like a good alternative rather than forking over hundreds for a new seat. Thanks!
 
I have tried a couple of things with my C10. First I bought a sheepskin cover. OK on the monkey butt thing, but didn't help the seat hardness. Next I bought an Air Hawk and that helped a lot with seat hardness, but my backside still got hot. At the moment, I use the sheepskin on top of the Air Hawk and that helps both problems a lot, but not perfect. I haven't done it yet because I worry about being able to put my foot on the ground, but I do intend to try a beaded seat on top of the Air Hawk and do away with the sheepskin. Maybe that would be over doing it? Dunno. I have used beaded seat covers in my trucks (work and personal) for years and they are wonderful there. I have hesitated to get an aftermarket seat because if I do get a new seat, I will have sacrificed the old for the new, and what if I don't like the new one as much as the old one? Or what if I even hate the new one? I will be stuck with something I hate and spent a lot of money on because, as I understand, the old seat is the basis of the new one.
 
I've considered all these options, so I appreciate your input. I've even thought about picking up a stock seat on ebay to have something to play with. My thought was to experiment with some high density foam and reshape the seat to be flatter and wider and then when I was happy with the feel, take it to a local upholsterer and have a cover made for it. I haven't heard of anyone else doing that and like you am hesitant to do anything that I might not like due to the cost. I think I'm going to start with the beads since that's a relatively cheap experiment and if that doesn't work, add the Air Hawk. Post again if you do that and like it. Thanks again!
 
I bought my beads from another cogger, but many just by a set for a car from Wall-Mart and cut them down to fit. I have been running the same set of Walmart beads for the last 4 summers here in Tx. It lets air under your butt and makes all the difference in higher heats. I bought the bead rider ones also because they look nicer all black and stuff. They don't work as well. The beads do not bend around the edge of the seat like the bigger cheap set does so the air gets blocked by my legs. I have to take the beads off in the winter though because there is just to much air. Cool weather lets me ride further on the stock seat but not as far as a medium day on beads. ---------------------------------- I will answer any question. It is up to you to figure out if I should have.

I have been researching the same thing. Have you looked into modifing your seat? I am sending my seat to a guy in south florida who takes your stock seat and improves it. My bike had a gel insert installed under the upholstery of the corbin seat by the previous owner. The brand is "Butt Buffer". Here's a link http://www.buttbuffer.com/ I find it very comfortable but I don't ride more than 200 miles a day.
 
+1 on the beads and the air hawk. I don't really care for the air hawk if I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the twisties though. Beads/bicycle shorts combo works well then. COG #5995, AMA #724312, CDA #0117, BMW MOA 121177 2003 Candy Cardinal
 
I have beads and an airhawk. I use the beads around town and the hawk on the road. I did 700+ one day this summer when it was 95+ and the only thing comfortable was my butt. Respectfully Yours! Wess Heavner COG #8010 CDA #0239

I am glad to hear that the airhawk works as I just bought one. This bike has the most uncomfortable seat of any bike I have owned. And that is saying something.

I had one done for me and the passenger section, double thumbs up and great customer service. $90 all together.
 
I heartily agree with Vic! I used Spencers' as well and it was a great improvement. My wife likes it a lot better as well. We do mostly local riding (under 100 miles) and it works great.
