I want to thank everyone that contributes to this forum. Due to marriage and other obligations, I stopped riding for 28 years, and recently started searching again for a ride. I tried to take my time and sort through the choices of Harley, Victory, Honda, etc. I previously owned a 1978 KZ-440, then a 1980 KZ-750 and then a 1982 KZ-1000. Obviously I liked Kawasaki, and I just kept coming back to this forum and reading about how much you guys like the Concours. I even read about the few knocks, and decided this is the bike for me!
In the end, the forum saved me 500 bucks because of the post by Fred Harmon announcing the July 4th star spangled savings offer. I arrived at the dealer July 1st at 4 PM and was riding off on a Silver 2011 Concours by 10:30 the next morning. After 800 miles the first week alone, I'm super impressed by every aspect of the machine. 28 Years introduces a lot of improvements for sure!
The forum is full of great information. I already pinned the bags, and trust me that I read everything about break-ins, oil types, etc. So, if you average out every break-in/oil post like I did, you need to mostly follow the Concours service manual, keeping the revs in check, change the oil at 400 miles, 1000 miles, 1800 miles and 3000 miles. From there change the oil every 3000 miles with Dino, until you reach 15,000 miles and from there jump to Synthetic. Just kidding, but it could be that this is indeed the average of all information.
I look forward to contributing (not to CDA) when I learn more about the bike.
