Touch up paint

Don't ask me how I know this, just read Steve in Sunny Florida's report on the RWTW Rally. But, for those of us with '05 C10s, DupliColor spray paint in Light Chestnut Metallic is a very good match for Pearl Luster Beige. And it's WAAAAAAAY more frugal than the "official" touch-up paint. Just in case anyone needs some!! Eddie

Hey thanks for the good info. And while we're on the subject... Does anyone know a good match for the 2000 red Connie color?? Thanks for any info :)

I was repainting my son's bumper on his civic after his last altercation and thats when I decided that having a white paint job is not all that bad. That spray job looked real good from 5 feet away. Maybe I will always buy white or black.

I was just searching online for this very thing last night! I am looking for '99 Concours Aramanth Red. Was I ever surprised to find it's about $80/quart!!! :gasp: That's just as much as fancy House of Color paints that I saw! Any frugal alternatives? I only want to repaint the tank, but if I have enough, the whole bike. Maybe it's time to paint the bike a different color. Was that the price at colorite or where ever it is that sells the oem colors?

Pete, let me know what you find out about frugal paint for your 99. I, too, am looking for some paint for mine.

The more I look, the more I think I'm going to repaint the bike a similar, but different color. Maybe just some generic (in stock) maroon metallic. (Did you know there are two L's in metallic? I thought that was just Metallica. I had to look that up.) Anyhow, I just might lean toward more of a 2003 Conc color, just because it might be easier to find for the future. (I would like to see a preview button to see what our message looks like before we send it.) I apologize for the ramble. Thanks Crag for the colorrite link. Have you used this on your bike? Just wondering how it turned out... what pieces did you do... did you get the clear coat? Or, if anybody else has used these colorrite products... any suggestions? I only need to do a few fairing patches (PO, not me)(not that there's anything wrong with that) :) Anyway, they list a touch-up pen for $16. And a touch-up jar for $21. But I didn't see the quantities of each... Any suggestions of a good quantity to get. I haven't done any painting before... obviously, :) Thanks -

I splashed out the $$ for the 2 part Colorite for both the 99 Amaranth Red, and the Gray Lowers. The gray was not too bad a match but not great. The Amaranth Red was hopelessly dark I was very un-impressed. I'm still looking for a good match for a 86 Silverdammit some helpful chap suggested Dupli-Color Medium Gray Metallic, but that's way too dark. So I used it to make the lowers 2 tone like the newer C10's the result was pretty good. I intend to drop colorite a call about the 99 color match at some point. My son & I ended up painting the tank with Dupli-Color Deep Cranberry Pearl that was on closeout from a local auto store. We also used a clearcoat on top. It turned out quite well! OTOH, it's very cheap paint and gave a less-than-smooth finish. At least it's painted and doesn't look crappy anymore. In the mean time I found that the Deep Cranberry Pearl that Chrysler used from about 1999 to 2003 on various cars makes a good match for the Candy Aramenth Red, although a touch lighter. Later this year my son and I plan to repaint the whole bike with that color. There are several shops on the 'net where you can buy that paint at a discount. Here's one example: http://www.tcpglobal.com/restorationshop/ Here's the original Color-rite paint page: http://www.colorrite.com/matrix-colors.cfm?CFID=24238&CFTOKEN=33219065 In the mean time, the tank is painted and I'm riding. :) There are 10 kinds of people in this world; those that understand binary and those that don't.
