West Thompson Lake Campout

Gerry B

Mini Bike
Hey Folks, we,Gerry Barnett and Jerry Gillespie, needed an excuse to go for a ride so we took a toot out to see the campground we're all going to. The sites look great! Easy to get in and out. Nice flat surfaces. The road in is a gravel one up a slight hill, but it looks like it's in great shape. The sites are covered with New England's favorite soft bedding material GRANITE! Not ledge, but those nice round rocks that poke you in the back in the middle of the night. Bring air mattresses. However the sites are flat and fairly large. Most, if not all, have running potable water. They are all pretty close to each other and the all important bathrooms. Which by the way, are decent ones, with showers and flush toilets. The lake, while not having a beach per se, has a nice boat launch area where lawn chairs can be setup and you can enjoy the sunshine. The lake has a 5MPH speed limit so no jet ski's to listen to. It looks like its a great choice for a campground. The campground doesn't actually open up til May 15th so we will be some of the earlier campers of season. We are looking forward to it. Woo Hoo. Lemme know if you want any details.

Gerry and Jerry, Thanks for the nice write-up. When my family camped there last year we really enjoyed it. Peaceful and well kept up. Greg H from Mass, Connie Droppers Anonymous Awards Dude COG# 7010,a Tracey CDA 120 99 Connie "Herrin Christabelle", 05 Ninja 250

Tracey, Coop, Pat, Sher, and I checked the place out on Sat. We took a good look at the East Side shelter/pavilion for the Sat dinner cookout. Plenty of space to put the bikes and some nice open grills for cooking. They have a very popular Frisbee golf area. Bring your Frisbee if you want to give it a go. A nice family restaurant just around the corner called Busters. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner served. We're going to change our Sat ride start point to there ( depart 9 am). I'll update the details and notify the attendees. Meet around the corner from the Campground at Busters restaurant: http://www.bustersriversedge.com/ 274 Riverside Dr, Thompson, CT.
