Wheel Spacers

Howdy,
I had posted a similar concern when changing the front tire and now as I replace the rear tire I've found the same issue.  The plating on the spacer in the area where it contacts the rubber seal is peeling away.  If it gets to the section that contacts the rubber seal it could cause it to tear compromising the seal.  Something to check when replacing tires.  And yes, I always grease the lip seal when changing tires.

It's pretty amazing that the rubber seal will actually wear away the spacer.  I have two pretty good grooves in mine where the rubber meet the spacer.  At 18 bucks each I just recieved two to replace my fronts.

Hi,
The rubber seal did not wear away the spacer.  The plating started to peel away at the curved part on the outside of the spacer.  It's like chrome peeling from plastic.  Once it starts to peel it will work its way towards the rubber seal tearing the seal from the unevenness of the missing plating.  I may be over torquing so I'm bring my torque wrenches into work to check their calibration.

Hi,
Me again, I'm obviously doing a lousy job describing this so I'll get some pictures next week and post them.  I work a w/e shift, 3 days, 12 hours each, Fri., Sat. and Sun., work 36 hours get paid for 40 hours and get 4 days off each week, so I'm pretty beat each of those work days.  I'm sure being over 60 doesn't help.
